Insulation Gas Monitoring for Critical Grid Infrastructure

Insulation Gas Monitoring for Critical Grid InfrastructureUtilities operate gas-insulated switchgear as part of critical grid infrastructure — where insulation degradation and SF₆ leakage can rapidly evolve into operational and safety risks. We transform existing SF₆ measurement data into consistent, decision-ready asset health insights — enabling utilities to improve system reliability, reduce emissions, and support explainable decisions in KRITIS environments.

Key Capabilities & Benefits:

  • Detect early insulation degradation before failures or outages occur
  • Identify even the smallest SF₆ leaks through high-sensitivity monitoring
  • Enable proactive leak detection to prevent critical gas loss
  • Prioritise maintenance actions across GIS fleets based on risk and asset condition
  • Provide consistent, explainable health signals for decision-making in KRITIS-regulated operations
  • Reduce SF₆ emissions by 10% or more through early intervention and optimised maintenance

Turn Measurement Reality into Action

Since the introduction of gas insulated equipment (GIE), mechanical gas density monitors have been used worldwide. In line with IEC 62271-203 and IEC 62271-1, they help ensure that gas pressure and gas density inside GIE compartments stay within the required limits to maintain dielectric strength. Using temperature-compensated mechanical systems, they also provide basic leakage detection and can trigger safety-related functions such as interlocks.

Today, millions of these devices are installed globally. And despite their high reliability, monitoring is still often manual: on-site readings, inconsistent documentation, and a lack of trend data remain common. This manual, fragmented, low-resolution approach represents the Measurement Reality in many conventional GIE systems.

Utilities rarely start with fully digital, always-on sensing in GIS. They start hybrid — reactive offline readings, periodic sampling, and partially analog data. That data is still operationally relevant. The challenge is making it consistent, explainable, and decision-ready.

Insulation Gas Health Index:
Make Insulation Gas Data Decision-Ready

We convert existing insulation gas measurements into a risk-based health logic — so asset managers can prioritise interventions, optimise maintenance effort, and manage asset lifetime with confidence.
  • Prioritise assets with the highest risk or fastest degradation signals
  • Optimise sampling by focusing effort where it actually matters
  • Plan maintenance based on trends, not guesswork
  • Reduce emissions step-by-step with evidence-backed actions

From manual readings (minimal viable dataset) to actionable insights — without requiring a full digital retrofit on day one.
